Dr.Web is the anti-virus that cures
The quality of an anti-virus application is defined not only by its ability to detect viruses but to cure them, to restore files to their original state instead of deleting an infected file that may contain information important for a user.
- Dr. Web anti-virus successfully functions on an infected computer. Its exceptional resistance to viruses makes it stand out among other anti-viruses.
- Dr.Web is one of few anti-viruses that can be installed in an infected system and can cure it without additional utilities.
- Dr.Web scanner can be launched from a movable medium (CD or USB storage device) without installation in a system.
- Most viruses attacking an infected system can be neutralized during installation of Dr.Web anti-virus while scanning memory and startup files. Moreover, virus databases can be updated before the scanning (during installation).
Supported OSs
- Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista (32-bit only).

Dr.Web is not an anti-virus only!
Dr.Web successfully detects, cures or removes viruses and all types of malicious objects, including rootkits, mail and network worms, file viruses, Trojan programs, spyware, adware, hacker tools, paid dialers and joke programs.
Unique non-signature detection technology
The Origins Tracing™ technology has been added to traditional signature scan and heuristic analysis. It significantly improves detection of yet unknown viruses. Malicious objects detected using the new technology get the .Origin extension to their names.
Correct scan of archived and packed files
Dr.Web correctly checks the majority of existing formats of packed files and archives with any nesting level, including multi-volume and self-extracting, which is extremely important for e-mail systems. Dr.Web recognizes over 1000 types of archives and packers.
Very frequent updates of the virus database
Updates to the Dr.Web virus database are released as soon as new entries are added – up to several times per hour. "Hot" add-ons are released as soon as a new piece of malware is caught and analyzed. Dr.Web global monitoring network collects samples of new viruses from all over the world. Updates are delivered to customers from several updating servers located in different parts of the globe.
Dr.Web has the most compact virus database
That’s why files are scanned quickly, sparing hard drive disk space and RAM, as well as Internet traffic for downloading of the updates is almost instantaneous. Just one entry in the Dr.Web virus database allows detecting dozens, or hundreds, or even thousands of similar viruses.
Efficient counteraction to rootkits
Recently virus makers have been implementing various malware self-defense techniques to avoid detection by anti-virus applications – these are the so-called rootkit technologies. Dr.Web for Windows features a new scanner component to counter rootkits – Dr.Web Shield™. It is implemented as a driver which allows countering viral objects that hide on the kernel low-level of processes of the operating system.
Dr.Web means best protection of your e-mail
No infected e-mail messages will get to your computer as long as SpIDer Mail® (mail monitor) is checking all e-mails for viruses before they get to a mailbox. The monitor examines all elements of an e-mail message including its body and attachments, even archived ones.
Low system resources requirements
Dr.Web for Windows has extremely low system
requirements and is fully compatible with most versions of Microsoft
Windows, starting with Windows 95 OSR2 and up to Windows Vista (32-bit
architecture only). Dr.Web applications have a minimum impact on a system so they run perfectly on older machines. Perhaps you have a
laptop? Then Dr.Web is your only choice!
Easy to use
Dr.Web for Windows has very simple installation
procedure, doesn’t require extra configuration and is easy
to use. It fully complies with plug-n-play principle. Still experienced users may take advantage of advanced configuration options available for
every type of malicious objects, which allow scanning the entire system, a particular drive or any files or directories on a drive. Besides, flexible configuration tools can be used to customize scanning speed for various types of objects.
Key features
- Detection and neutralization of viruses and malware on hard drives, removable media and in RAM;
- Filtering for spam, phishing, pharming, scamming and bounce-messages;
- On-the-fly filtering of incoming and outgoing POP3/SMTP/IMAP4/NNTP traffic with all elements of an e-mail message checked;
- On-demand scanning;
- Individual scanning schedules;
- Automatic updates.
Real-time protection
SpIDer Guard® resident monitor intercepts
all calls to files located on floppy disks, hard drives, CDs,
Flash-cards and smart-cards preventing malicious objects from getting into systems. SpIDer Guard driver is highly resistible to external
attempts to block its operation, for example, by a specifically
designed malicious programs.
Though easy to configure SpIDer Guard is is a powerful tool for constant monitoring of your computer. Flexible configuration of SpIDer Guard takes into account system load, hardware configuration and sources of potential threats. The resident monitor is implemented as a Windows service so a system administrator can restrict user rights or completely prohibit users to change the program configuration. It is especially important for security of corporate networks.
Protection of e-mail – filtering on POP3/SMTP/IMAP4/NNTP traffic “on-the-fly”
SpIDerMail® mail monitor scans incoming and outgoing e-mail
on-the-fly before a message is received by an e-mail client.
The virus activity control feature of SpIDer Mail allows blocking
suspicious actions typical of mass-mailing worms. Experienced users
can manually set up hooks of ports used for processing of e-mail traffic.
Scheduling of updates and scanning
Dr.Web scheduler allows setting required update frequency and schedules
of hard drive scan. The application can be set to update once per hour
or even once in 16 minutes.
Protection against adware
Dr.Web for Windows protects computers from
adware that often comes along with freeware and shareware applications
downloaded from the Internet.
Protection against data leak
Dr.Web for Windows prevents collection of sensitive
information by spy robot modules, key loggers, Java-applets (mostly
target online gamers) which can be used as any other spyware to keep
track of all activities in the system and send the information to a third
party – a creator of the spyware, or its order customer that
can be a spammer, marketing agency, scam-agency, criminal or an
industrial espionage group.
Protection against paid dialers
Dr.Web for Windows blocks applications designed to
stealthily connect a user to expensive telephone services by means of a
modem.
Dr.Web anti-spam for Windows is an efficient and highly productive spam-filtering solution that sifts out spam, scamming, phishing, pharming and bounce messages.
Client-independent solution
Dr.Web anti-spam for Windows is integrated into SpIDer Mail® monitor and doesn’t depend on any e-mail client(s). Using the anti-spam insignificantly increases system load and has little effect to the timing of e-mail receipt.
Anti-spam that is ready to go!
Dr. Web anti-spam is truly unique. Unlike other anti-spam software, Dr. Web anti-spam requires no initial tuning or setup by the user; it begins working efficiently as soon as it is launched after the installation. However, Dr. Web anti-spam can also be taught to recognize and sort e-mail beyond these built-in parameters. Messages falsely detected as spam should be sent to vrnonspam@drweb.com, spam messages that bypassed the filter – to vrspam@drweb.com. This collaborative input is then examined by Dr. Web developers and, if applicable, is included as a part of an update download for all users to benefit from.
Intelligent filtreing
Dr.Web anti-spam uses different filtering techniques for different types of unsolicited e-mails – such as spam, phishing, pharming, scamming and bounce messages thus achieving an exceptionally high detection rate. Before a verdict is made – spam\not spam – all elements of a message are analyzed.
Flexible settings and ease of use
Dr.Web anti-spam is easy to use, even for PC-beginners. After the spam-filtering is activated and the first e-mail message is received, the anti-spam immediately starts operating automatically! In addition, the software allows advanced configuration. For instance a user may choose to exclude messages with Eastern Asia encoding from spam or create a local Whitelist and Blacklist to fine tune the anti-spam software to their specific requirements. The Whitelist contains trusted e-mail addresses and domains. Mail from these addresses or domains will never be labeled as spam. The Blacklist allows to ban specified e-mail addresses or domains, blacklisted mail will be transferred straight to the ‘Spam’ folder or any other folder chosen by a user.
Regular updates
Spammers invent new techniques every day to evade spam-filters, so do Dr.Web developers to keep up with latest tricks of spammers. Like an anti-virus, an anti-spam requires frequent updates. Updates for Dr.Web anti-spam are released daily and downloaded automatically by the Dr.Web updating utility. The unique spam filtering technologies make daily updates so small in size that it takes a few seconds to download even using a dial-up Internet connection.
Filtered mail is not deleted!
Messages marked as spam are never deleted. Spam messages can be automatically placed to a designated folder and checked/deleted later. Create a Spam folder in your e-mail client and specify rules for unsolicited e-mails to be put in the folder. All messages marked by Dr.Web as “Spam” will be automatically moved there and so you will be able to check if they are really undesired or a false detection occurred.
Spam filtering technologies
The anti-spam technologies consist of several thousands of rules which can be divided into several groups.
Heuristic analysis
A highly intelligent technology that empirically analyzes all parts of a message: header, message body, etc. Not only the message itself, but its attachment is analyzed. The heuristic analyzer is being constantly improved; new rules are frequently added.
Counter-reaction
The counter-reaction technique is one of the most advanced and efficient technologies of Dr.Web anti-spam. It helps counteract techniques and tricks used by spammers to avoid detection.
HTML-patterns
Messages containing HTML code are compared with a list of known patterns from the anti-spam library. Such comparison, in combination with data on sizes of images typically used by spammers, helps protect users against spam messages featuring HTML-code, which often contains online images.
Semantic analysis
During a semantic analysis words and phrases of a message are compared with words and phrases typical of spam. A special dictionary is used for the analysis. All words, phrases and symbols are analyzed – both those visible to the human eye and those masqueraded by the technical tricks of spammers.
Anti-scamming technology
Scam (as well as pharming messages – a type of scam-messages) is the most dangerous type of spam, including the so-called “Nigerian” scams, loan scams, lottery and casino scams and false messages from banks and credit organizations. A special module of Dr.Web anti-spam is used to filter scams.
Technical spam filtering
So-called bounces are delivery-failure messages sent by a mail server. An actual recipient of a bounce is not necessarily a sender of an undelivered message; such a message could be sent by a mail worm. Therefore bounces are as unwanted as spam A special module of Dr.Web anti-spam filters such messages as unwanted.
